Photo: Katerina Novikova Newsletter July, 28 2014 Mass media about the Theatre Kaliningrad philharmonic was given the name of the conductor Yevgeny Svetlanov They began to discuss it as far back as in the beginning of this year, and the philharmonic itself initiated the discussion. The idea was supported by the Association of Russian Concert Organizations and personally by Nina Nikolaevna Svetlanova, widow of the famous Russian maestro. And now, in accordance with the order of the Kaliningrad region department for culture, our philharmonic, which will be 55 this year, has been named after the outstanding conductor of our country Yevgeny Svetlanov. 'I am asked why after Svetlanov, since he is not connected with Kaliningrad? What matters is that we promote the name of this remarkable musician. Our Kaliningrad culture is only at the formation stage now. There is a school named after Shostakovich who also did not work in Kaliningrad, one more named after Dunayevsky, and a Rakhmaninov college', says the philharmonic director Viktor Bobkov. 'Svetlanov is an eminent person, and his name was given to one of the Aeroflot planes and a minor planet # 4135. Besides, in 2006 Svetlanov's name was given to the State Academic Symphonic Orchestra of Russia. The orchestra is expected to conduct a big concert in Kaliningrad on October 1. There is a preparation to renaming in the philharmonic: Svetlanov's portrait will be placed in the foyer, and in 2015 a rehearsal classroom and a hall that will be called Svetlanovskiy will be opened in the basement. This article was republished many times in other editions across the USA. The Troy Record writes about the upcoming visit of the Bolshoi Ballet to Saratoga Springs SPAC "The Bolshoi Ballet is one of the world's legendary ballet companies - arguably, the greatest classical ballet company on earth". Broadway World reviews the Bolshoi Ballet's Don Quixote at Lincoln Center writing "Y ou have heard of the magnificence of the Bolshoi Ballet-it is all true-go and see for yourself before the week is over-if you can get a ticket". The Daily Gazette Saratoga Springs writes about the upcoming visit of the Bolshoi Ballet there "Bolshoi means big. But even bigger, for dance audiences, is the chance to see the famed Bolshoi Ballet at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center". The Spectator (UK) interviews Natalia Osipova about her new show Solo for Two writing "Osipova, now a Royal Ballet principal, is still remembered by many as the Bolshoi Ballet's soloist, who, only a few years ago, dazzled dance-goers all over the world. Her unique approach to the classics, together with her technical abilities, helped to revitalize the languishing art of ballet and, more significantly, to change the image of the ballerina - an image that is still shrouded in bias and misconception. She is the last in an illustrious line of Russian artists - Galina Ulanova, Maya Plisetskaya, Ekaterina Maximova and Galina Mezentseva are among the ones she mentioned - who were and still are legends but never 'divas'. 'Their art, and their devotion to their art in particular, was and still is at the core of my artistic creed. I was also inspired by their eclecticism and their desire to engage with diverse choreographic styles and genres".
