The Bolshoi Theatre announces additional call for applications for the Bolshoi Theatre Young Artists Opera Program

The Young Artists Opera Program announces additional call for applications for the season 2014/2015, soloist/vocalist major (2 to 4 vacancies)
Audition requirements: singers born between 1980 and 1994, holders of incomplete/complete higher music education degrees.

Call for applications starts on May 6th 2014 on the website www.bolshoi.ru and closes three calendar days prior to the auditions date in each city; application deadline for auditions in Moscow - 5 calendar days
All expenses (travelling, accommodation, etc.) are to be covered by participants themselves.

Procedure

First Round:
• Auditions in Krasnoyarsk: Krasnoyarsk State Academy of Music and Theatre - May 27th 2014
• Auditions in Yerevan: Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory - June 7th 2014
• Auditions in Minsk: the Belarusian State Academy of Music - June 10th 2014
• Auditions in Saint Petersburg: The N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory - June 14th, 15th 2014
• Auditions in ChișinДѓu: Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts - June 17th, 18th 2014

• Auditions in Yekaterinburg: the Urals State Conservatory named after Mussorgsky - June 2014 (the date will be announced later)
• Auditions in Moscow: the Bolshoi Theatre - June 23rd - 26th, 2014

All participants are to come to the auditions with their own accompanists; the form (find it on page ) is to be filled in and submitted to operaprogramme@bolshoi.ru beforehand. The theatre in Moscow will provide participants from other cities with an accompanist by prior request.

The program of each round includes at least two arias: the first one is to be chosen by a singer, the second one is to be chosen by the board from the repertoire, submitted by each competitor in the application form. The repertoire is to include 5 arias. The list of arias is to include arias in three or more languages; Russian, Italian and French (and/or German) are compulsory. All arias from the list are to be performed in the original language. The board reserves the right to ask a competitor to perform more or fewer arias.
The number of the first round participants is not limited.

Second Round:
Auditions will be organized in Moscow (the Bolshoi Theatre) on June 27th and June 28th. Each participant is to come to the auditions with their own accompanists (the theatre will provide participants from other cities with an accompanist by prior request). Each participant is to present two-three arias: the first one is to be chosen by a singer, the rest are to be chosen by the board from the repertoire, submitted for the first round. All arias are to be performed in the original language. The board reserves the right to ask a competitor to perform more or fewer arias.
The number of the second round participants - no more than 40 people.

Third Round:
1. Auditions will be organized in Moscow, on the Bolshoi Theatre Main Stage on June 29th. Each participant is to come to the auditions with their own accompanists (the theatre will provide participants from other cities with an accompanist by prior request). Each participant is to present one-two arias, chosen by the board beforehand (the choice of the arias is to be announced together with the results of the second round) from the participant's repertoire.
2. A lesson/an interview with the directors of the Program.
The number of the third round participants - no more than 20 people.

The Bolshoi Theatre Young Artists Opera Program:

The Young Artists Opera Program was set up at the Bolshoi Theatre in October 2009. Young singers and pianists from Russia and the CIS countries, selected on the basis of auditions, are coached in different disciplines, including voice studies, stage movement and acting skills, foreign languages and most important - attendance at master-classes given by famous singers and repetiteur-coaches. Each of the Program participants is also provided with plenty of opportunity to perform on stage, singing supporting roles in the Theatre's current productions and understudying the Opera Company's lead singers. Concert work is another important part of their training.
The Bolshoi Theatre Young Artists Opera Program goal is to nurture a new generation of Russian singers matching up to world standards, strengthen the position of the Russian school of singing in the world at large and to train a new intake for work at the Theatre itself. Working with the Young Artists Program participants are major international coaches and singers/major international coaches and singers that are sought-after by the largest opera theatres in Europe and the USA: Evgeny Nesterenko, Irina Bogacheva, Elena Obraztsova, Makvala Kasrashvili, Laura Claycomb (USA), Neil Shicoff (USA), Joan Rodgers (Great Britain), Deborah York (Great Britain), Andre Cognet (France), Elizabeth Vidal (France), Irina Kataeva (France), Inga Kalna (Latvia), Svetlana Nesterenko, Lyubov Orfenova, George Darden (USA), conductors Alberto Zedda (Italy), Richard Bado (USA), Antonello Allemandi (Italy), Nicola Giuliani (Italy), Christopher Moulds (Great Britain), Laurent Campellone (France), Vladimir Fedoseyev (Russia) and Dmitri Jurowski (Russia), directors A. ЕЅagars (Latvia), T. Capobianco (Italy) and N. Dufault (France).

Participants are given a grant for the entire period of their training with the Program. Program members who are non-Moscow residents are provided with hostel accommodation. Those Young Artists Opera Program participants who show themselves to best advantage and who are most successful in terms of the results of their training will be offered a long-term contract with the Theatre to include leading roles in the operatic repertoire.
The Artistic Director of the Bolshoi Theatre Young Artists Opera Programme is Dmitry Vdovin. The Program Chief Consultant is Houston Grand Opera's Director of Artistic Administration Diane Zola.
