During 140 years of on-stage existence the legendary "Carmen" opera by Bizet passed through an enormous variety of evocations and interpretations. The stage director Alexei Borodin and his permanent collaborator scene designer Stanislav Benediktov will present their version at The Bolshoi. Famous Spanish dancers and choreographers Rosario and Ricardo Castro create the authentic dances. The Bolshoi Musical Director Tugan Sokhiev will be the conductor.

Carmen part is rehearsing by The Bolshoi soloists Agunda Kulaeva, Yulia Mazurova and Svetlana Shilova, and Varduhi Abrahamyan (Yerevan conservaory graduate performing at Geneva's Grand-Théâtre, Paris Opera, the Capitole in Toulouse etc.).

Don Jose part is taken by The Bolshoi soloist Oleg Dolgov and Turkish tenor Murat Karahan who successfully performed as Rodolfo ("La Boheme") and Alfredo ("La Traviata") at The Bolshoi this season.

Micaela will be performed by The Bolshoi soloists Anna Aglatova, Dinara Alieva and Anna Nechaeva; and Escamillo - by The Bolshoi soloist Elchin Azizov and Georgian baritone Nikoloz Lagvilava, Tbilisi State Conservatoire and Accademia del Teatro alla Scala graduate.

The creative process is in full play and the photos from rehearsals will let us to sneak behind the curtain.
