On a night filled with grace, reverence, and artistic brilliance, the Bolshoi Theatre paid a magnificent tribute to one of the greatest ballerinas of all time — Maya Plisetskaya. The Ballet Gala, marking what would have been her 95th birthday, brought together an extraordinary constellation of dancers, musicians, and choreographers whose performances reflected the indomitable spirit and elegance that defined Plisetskaya’s art.
The evening’s program featured highlights from Plisetskaya’s legendary repertoire and masterpieces closely associated with her dazzling career. Audiences were treated to excerpts from “Swan Lake”, “Carmen Suite”, “The Dying Swan”, “Don Quixote”, “Raymonda”, and “Spartacus” — each a living homage to her brilliance, individuality, and passion for dance.
Performing were leading stars of the Bolshoi Ballet, including Svetlana Zakharova, Ekaterina Krysanova, Olga Smirnova, Evgenia Obraztsova, Vladislav Lantratov, and Artem Ovcharenko, alongside distinguished guest artists from major ballet companies. The Bolshoi Orchestra, under the direction of Pavel Klinichev, provided the evening’s rich musical tapestry, enveloping the performances in warmth and grandeur.
Projected images and archival footage of Maya Plisetskaya illuminated the stage, allowing the audience to feel her presence — her artistry, her defiance, her boundless charisma. The gala was not merely a remembrance but a celebration of her eternal influence on world ballet — an evening where past and present met in beauty and motion.
