Libretto by Galina Ziganova and Rinat Abushakhmanov based on Bashkir legends and the plot of Ilmar Almukhametov The world premiere at the Bashkir Opera and Ballet Theatre took place on October 10, 2024. The ballet Seven Maidens was created especially for the Bashkir State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. Its plot is based on the ancient legend of the same name — a true gem of Bashkir folklore. Seven Girls has become one of the most vivid and enduring symbols of Bashkortostan. The people of the republic hold this poetic tale — which glorifies the ideal image of a Bashkir woman — in deep affection and reverence. In the ballet, which marks the first stage embodiment of this legend at the Bashkir Opera and Ballet Theatre, the story is presented in its most ancient form. The narrative reflects the cosmogonic beliefs of the Bashkir people: seven beautiful sisters, terrified at the sight of the king of the devs (evil spirits), leap from the mountaintop and ascend to the heavens. Since then, they have been known as Yetegen Yondoz — the Seven Stars. The timeless legend is framed with new dramatic depth. Within it unfold themes of exalted and passionate love, and the struggle between two rival heroes, both captivated by the beauty of the most enchanting of the seven sisters. | ||||||||||
