Sofia Gumerova was born in Moscow, graduated from the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet, and joined the Mariinsky Theatre in 1995.

Her repertoire include Sylph (La Sylphide); Giselle and Monna (Giselle); Pas de Trois of Odalisques and Medora (Le Corsaire); Big swans, Two swans and Odette-Odile (Swan Lake); Fee Candide, Princess Florine and Fairy Candide (The Sleeping Beauty); Raimonda, Clemans, Henriette, Grand Pas Hongroise (Raymonda); Nikia, Gamzatti's Grand Pas, Pas de Trois from the scene The Kingdom of Shadows (La Bayadere); Kitri, Street dancer, Lady Dryad (Don Quixote); Young Women in The Fountain of Bakhchisarai, Emeralds, Rubies in Jewels, Princess Alba in Goya-Divertissement, and Prelude, Mazurka (Chopiniana). She has also performed as Mekhmeneh Bahnu (The Legend of Love); Terpsichore, Polyhimnia, Calliope (Apollo); the Siren (Prodigal Son); The Four Temperaments, La Valse, Princess Alba (Goya-Divertissement); Female Dance (Cinderella); Le Poème de l´Extase, choreography by Alexei Ratmansky.
Gumerova has also danced in ‘Paquita’ Grand Pas (variation), Pas de Quatre, Pas de Six from Esmeralde, Symphony in C (I part), as a soloist in Serenade, Scotch Symphony, Dolce, Con Fuoco, and Theme and Variations, In the Middle Somewhat Elevated and Reverence.

She has toured with the Mariinsky Theatre to Germany. Gumerova has an elegant line and beautiful tapering legs. She is a dancer of sweet charm, and has improved tremendously since her debut as Odette/Odile in London in 2001. Gumerova creates a lovely and delightful Medora, and dances beautifully as the Swan Queen. In ‘La Bayadere’ she is persuasive as Nikiya and displays a good level of artistry. She also dances the second ballerina in ‘Emeralds’ and the ‘Diamonds’ ballerina.
